NJ Computer Science Endorsement
CS Endorsement Update (September 24, 2026):
Beginning July 1, 2027, educators teaching grades 9–12 computer science will be required to hold a CS Endorsement - 1820.
Nothing has changed for computer science teachers of grades N–8.
Educators teaching grades 7–8 computer science can continue to do so with any instructional endorsement.
Educators teaching grades P–6, whether in an elementary or middle school building, can continue to teach computer science, following district rules and their teaching assignment, within their endorsement:
Classroom teachers in grades P–6 with a New Jersey Elementary School P–3 or K–6 endorsement can teach computer science without needing the additional Computer Science Endorsement for no more than 50% of the daily instructional assignment.
If a P–6 teacher wishes to teach computer science over 50% of their daily instructional assignment, they need an instructional endorsement other than the P–3 or K–6.
Please be advised, this information is for informational purposes only. Work with your district to ensure you are teaching with an endorsement that best suits your course.
